On September 10, 2001, FDNY Chaplain Father Mychal Judge was re-dedicating a firehouse, specifically FDNY Engine 73, Ladder 42 in the Bronx, when he spoke these words:

“You have no idea what God is calling you to. But he needs you. He needs me. He needs all of us.”

On the following morning Father Mychal would become the first recorded death of the terrorist attacks on New York City and his last homily would be forever remembered.

The last homily of Father Mychal Judge delivers not only an inspiring message to the members of the FDNY for whom it was intended, but also a profound and powerful lesson for men, women, and children everywhere about thankfulness and our unique and important role in God’s divine plan.
